Since its founding in 1982, the WesternU Alumni Association has made it a priority to support current students. Today, that support is stronger than ever with a variety of programs designed to enhance the student experience at WesternU. A few programs in particular rely on the generous financial contributions of alumni.
Learn about how you can lend your support:
Alumni Association Scholarship Fund
Since 2012, the WesternU Alumni Association Scholarship has been awarded annually to two humanistic, caring and dependable Western University of Health Sciences students who both excel academically and exemplify the qualities of an engaged alumnus or alumna through their extracurricular involvement. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate program at WesternU, be in good academic and professional standing with their program, have completed one full year of study at WesternU, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must submit an application to the Financial Aid Office around Feb. 1, and a committee of alumni volunteers scores the applications. Recipients are recognized as part of their respective college’s honors day ceremony in the spring with a plaque and $1,000.
Alumni contributions to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund will increase the future dollar value of the awards and could possibly increase the number of scholarships awarded each year as well.
Alumni Memorial Award Fund
Each year since 1991, the Alumni Memorial Award has been presented in memory of deceased alumni to the one graduate throughout the University who best exhibits the dedication and enthusiasm of a future alumnus or alumna. Each of the University’s degree-programs may nominate one graduate for this award, and the University Awards Committee chooses the honoree from among those nominations. The recipient is recognized at his or her college’s graduate awards ceremony in the spring with a plaque and $500.
Alumni contributions to the Association’s Alumni Memorial Award Fund will insure the continuation of this award and could eventually support the creation of an endowment and increase the future dollar value of this award.
Alumni Association Student Activities Fund
The Alumni Association Student Activities Fund is an endowment that provides up to about $5,000 each year in financial support for student activities that meet at least one of the following criteria:
1. Build a sense of community among students
2. Enhance the student experience outside the classroom
3. Facilitate student-alumni interaction
Officially recognized student clubs and classes can request these funds to support their activities. More than a dozen clubs and classes each year are typically granted up to a few hundred dollars per activity. Some examples of past activities that have received funding include class socials, banquets, barbecues, athletic tournaments, and guest lectures.
Alumni contributions to the Association’s Student Activities Fund will increase the funding available for future student activities.
