Course Name: Update in Oral Cancer Screening
Speaker: Joel Laudenbach, DMD
The oral cancer screening examination technique will be reviewed in detail including the necessary armamentarium and important locations for visualization/palpation. Common oral lesions and head/neck swellings observed in dental practice will be presented, along with helpful recognition/diagnostic strategies. Attendees will learn to recognize when additional testing and/or specialty referrals are indicated. Adjunctive and biopsy techniques will be reviewed including tissue reflectance, tissue fluorescence, toluidine blue dye, cytology (i.e., smear and brush cytology) and conventional scalpel biopsy.
