Expose students at an early age to the spectrum of health care professions available through a variety of methods, emphasizing practical experience and hands-on learning.

Saturday academies with required parental attendance at initial and final sessions

Goal – at least 90% of student and parents will rate the Academy good to excellent on a 5 point Likert scale in anonymous questionnaires distributed at each of 6 Saturday Academy sessions. Questions rate session comprehensibility, utility, and accessibility.

Competence in math, verbal and science skills for health care professions.

Saturday academies academic mentoring

Goal- First year Biomedical Scholars will improve their math and science performance on a sequence of four subject take home exams given during the course of the 2010-11 year.

Retention in pipeline

Enhance test taking skills and specific exam preparation, including PSAT, SAT and MCAT

Goal of the first year students involved in the introductory academies, a minimum of 20% will apply to become Biomedical Scholars.

Scores on standardized tests at or above institutional averages

Develop math, science and verbal skills necessary for undergraduate and professional school admissions and success
