Saturday Academy for Middle Schoolers

Western University, through the student organization Pipeline to Health Careers, conducts a series of Saturday morning sessions for Lebanon middle school students to learn about careers in the health sciences.

These are fun, active and informative workshops for parents and 6th grade students. Presentations and hands-on learning sessions are conducted by a variety of health care professionals and WesternU students.

WHEN:

One Saturday approximately each month 8:45am - 12:00 noon.

Food is provided and a youth curriculum is available for minor children to facilitate whole family participation.

The Saturday Academy is designed to be modular, in order to provide age and interest appropriate activities. They include a plenary session with required attendance by both students and parents, followed by topic or discipline specific lectures, break-out activities, and other hands-on experience for the students. They are staffed by WesternU faculty and students, and each session is designed to meet specific state educational guidelines.

Please note that all students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult. A signed Registration/Permission slip is required to attend.

Organizations participating in these events include WesternU's club Pipeline to Health Careers and service learning students under the direction of Dr. Louise Muscato.
