Electronic Resources

How to access resources from off-campus

Off-campus access is available for Western University of Health Sciences appointed clinical faculty. After your clinical faculty position has been confirmed by the university’s Academic Affairs office, clinical faculty may request a username and password to access the library's electronic resources remotely by filling out the Remote Access Request form.

The issued username and password is valid from July 1 to July 1 of the following year. Clinical faculty will need to reapply each year at the above link.

Due to license agreements with publishers, the on-campus and off-campus use of subscribed electronic resources is limited to current faculty, clinical faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students of Western University of Health Sciences. Clinical faculty may have remote access to some of our electronic resources only during the term of their Western University clinical faculty appointment. Some publisher license agreements specifically exclude remote access by faculty not employed by WesternU and/or not located on the WesternU campus. Any unauthorized usage results in a violation of the library's contract with the service provider.

Clinical Faculty have remote access to all of the library's electronic resources EXCEPT the following:

  • ADIS Online journals - full text pharmacy related journals
  • UpToDate - Clinical information resource based on expert opinion

Borrowing a Book

Clinical faculty may borrow circulating items for a six week period with one renewal, unless the item states differently. Unfortunately there is no renewal available on items checked out. Clinical faculty must present a picture ID and identify themselves as clinical faculty at time of check out. You may search our online catalog for items in our collection.

Journal Articles

As a registered clinical faculty member you may request journal articles from the Pumerantz Library’s print collection or if necessary, request articles from journals we do not have a subscription to be retrieved from another institution. This is done using the ILLiad system to make the requests.

ILLiad is the Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library's Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery System. Registered users may log in to ILLiad to submit requests for journal articles, books, and single book chapters.

First time users will need to register before they can use ILLiad. Once your registration is approved, you may log in with the username and password information provided to you.

When requesting materials using ILLiad, please submit no more than 5 requests at a time. Users may only have 5 items in process at one time. Once material comes in, more requests may be submitted. Users may also track the status of their requests, cancel requests no longer needed, view a history of their requests, and view journal articles received.

If you have further questions about ILLiad, please contact the Resource Sharing department.
