Welcome to the Harriet K. and Philip Pumerantz Library
The Pumerantz Library operates as a public place providing resources for all visitors to the library.
Individuals not affiliated with Western University of Health Sciences are permitted to use the library within the public service limits listed below.
Entrance
In cooperation with appropriate University departments, the Library provides a welcome, open environment that is safe and secure for everyone. Guests must show a form of government ID with a photo, and sign in at the guard station.
The guard will issue each guest an ID badge that must be worn at all times while visiting the Library. Guests must checkout at the guard station, and return the badge, when their visit is complete.
Borrowing
Guests may borrow select materials, from the circulating collection, by purchasing a Library Signature Card for an annual fee of $100.00 (cost subject to change).
The signature card entitles guests to a maximum of three items for a two-week period. Guests are eligible for one renewal as long as there are no holds on the item.
Library Catalog
Guests may access the Library’s Online Catalog, either online or inside the library.
Reference
Reference librarians are located on the second floor to help answer limited research questions of no longer than 20 minutes in length. Research help beyond 20 minutes in length and/or more in-depth in nature is available for a fee of up to $50 per hour.
The reference collection is restricted to library use only.
Journals
Journals are located on the third floor and are restricted to library use only.
Computer Use
The computers located on the first floor may be used by guests for educational research purposes; however, WesternU students do have first priority and guests may be asked to vacate the workstation should students need to use them. The computers located on the 2nd and 3rd floors are for students, staff & faculty use only. Audio-visual equipment (VCR, televisions, etc.) are also for WesternU students, staff & faculty use only.

Computer Ports
Guests are not permitted to use the computer ports to plug in laptop computers to access the schools network or the Internet.
Printer and Photocopiers
Guests may print on the first floor using a guest account. Contact the Circulation staff for assistance with printing. Photocopiers are available in the third floor copy center, Rm. 304. Guests are responsible for all printing and photocopy costs
Study Areas
Private study rooms are for WesternU student use only. Guests may utilize the open study areas located on the first, second and third floors of the library.
Cellular Phones and Pagers
Cell phones and pagers must be turned off or set to non-audible mode while visiting the library. Any calls must be conducted in the south stairwell or outside of the library.
Food and Drinks
Food is allowed on the first floor study area. All guests are responsible for the disposal of their own trash. Food and drinks are not allowed on the second or third floors of the Library. Guests found with food on the upper floors will be asked to take it to the first floor. *Exceptions: spill proof containers are allowed on all floors of the library.
