Karen Hanford, EdD, MSN, FNP

Karen Hanford, EdD, MSN, FNP has over 30 years of nursing experience, which spans the continuum from critical care nursing to ambulatory care as a family nurse practitioner. Hanford received her BSN from San Francisco State University and her MSN from California State University, Chico. For her FNP education, she also attended the University of North Dakota and has her Doctorate Educational in Leadership from the University of La Verne. Dean Hanford has over 20 years of nursing education experience and is an expert in pulmonary nursing. In addition, she has been an advanced practice nurse for fifteen years with a special interest in internal medicine.
As founding dean of College of Graduate Nursing she has been instrumental in curriculum design and achieving Board of Registered Nursing approval and professional accreditation for all graduate programs. The College celebrated its ten year anniversary in 2007 and its ten year re-accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) the national accrediting body for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Dean Hanford has presented at numerous national meetings in the area of curriculum design and distance teaching. The college was the first in the U.S. to combine web-based curriculum with distance clinical training and is recognized as a leader in distance education.
This year the University Administration honored Dean Hanford as the Western University of Health Sciences Woman of the Year.
