CGN Awarded National Faculty Loan Repayment Program Grant
In July 2011, The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded WesternU's College of Graduate Nursing received $306,733 to help prepare future nurse faculty. According to Dean Karen Hanford, EdD, MSN, FNP, "these funds will help ensure that the nation has an adequate supply of qualified educators to train future nursing students. WesternU is helping to meet the expectations of the Institute of Medicine's Report The Future of Nursing by educating more than 20 future educators." CGN Awarded Advanced Nursing Education Expansion Grant
Western University of Health Sciences and the College of Graduate Nursing is proud to announce that we are recipients of $1,056,00.00 through the Advanced Nursing Education Expansion Program from the Affordable Care Act's Prevention and Public Health Fund.  The grant will increase the likelihood of students maintaning full time status, thus accelerating their graduation.  This grant will increase the number of Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) in the workforce who focus on the needs of vulnerable populations in California and beyond. CGN Welcomed AACN Accreditation Site Visitors September 11-13, 2011
WesternU welcomed three national nurse leaders to the WesternU campus in September, 2011 for the preliminary accreditation visit of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP). CGN Dean Karen Hanford, EdD, MSN, FNP. indicates that "accreditation is a voluntary process that allows schools to participate in continuous quality improvement activities that ultimately advances the profession". The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has nationally recognized standards for Colleges of Nursing and has previously approved all other CGN nursing programs.
