The College of Optometry hosts two annual events for presentation of awards and scholarships: Founder‘s Day and Honors Day.
Founder‘s Day is held each year in early Fall, and is a unique event to recognize students, faculty and other pioneers in the field of optometry. Student honors, awards, and scholarships presented on Founder‘s Day 2012 are listed below:
A Tribute to Caring Scholarship
Granted to incoming students who demonstrate high academic potential and outstanding community service as demonstrated through extracurricular activities and employment history.
AOF/Pat Cummings Scholarship
Awarded in recognition of the outstanding student clinician who best exemplifies ideal eye care standards of practice through academics, community service and volunteerism.
Founding Dean Scholarship
This award is given to recognize a 1st year student who, prior to matriculation, provided outstanding community service and leadership as described in a competitive essay process.
Hayes-Haine Family Scholarship
Recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to serving underserved communities.
OneSight - Dr. Stanley Pearle Scholarship
This award is the result of a competitive process sponsored by OneSight Research Foundation. It is based on scholastic performance along with demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.
Richmond Products Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has overcome obstacles to excel in areas of leadership and humanism.
Transitions Optical Students of Vision Scholarship
Awarded for creativity, scientific excellence and leadership in optometry through the development of the website: www.postod.com
Awarded in recognition of a student with a strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in community practice.
Walmart NOSA Scholarship
Awarded based on outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments.
Scientific Excellence Award
Awarded to one student in each WUCO House for Scientific Knowledge and Academic Excellence in the course PPO 1 - Principles & Practice of Optometry.

Alumni Association Scholarship
Established by WesternU Alumni Association to honor WesternU students who demonstrated humanism, caring and dependability, while both excelling academically and engaging in extracurricular activities.
California Optical Laboratories Association Scholarship
Founded in 1957; COLA is an organization of full-service optical laboratories in the Western U.S. The scholarship is awarded to a third-year student who exhibits excellence in academics, clinical skills, and patient care at the Eye Care Center related to ophthalmic optics.
Core Values Award
This award recognizes one student from each WUCO House who has performed extraordinary service and exemplified WUCO Core Values.

Essilor's Private Practice Student Travel
Presented to students who have excelled in three primary areas: Maintained good academic standing-provided service to the community-and demonstrated outstanding leadership at school, or within the profession.
Essilor/Varilux Student Grant
Recognizes excellence in dispensing skills in the application of Varilux lenses to patient needs as described in a written case report.
Great Western Council of Optometry Scholarship
In recognition of outstanding patient care consistent with the Colleges Core Values: "The Outstanding Student Clinician of the Year".
The HOYA House Cup
Sponsored by HOYA VisionCare; This award recognizes members of the WUCO House who have collectively earned the most services points during the academic year, by demonstrating WesternU's Core Values of Humanism, Scientific Excellence and Caring.

The President's Society Scholarship
Established in 1994 by the WesternU President's Society to recognize a student's academic excellence and service to the University.
Who's Who Award
