Mission Statement
The multi-disciplinary Department of Social Medicine and Healthcare Leadership at COMP is dedicated to promoting integrated perspectives and leadership development with regard to key social and cultural issues impacting the quality of health care. The Department provides an inter-disciplinary forum in which behavioral and social scientists, public health educators, bio-ethicists, bio-terrorism experts, statisticians, technology experts, medical educators, and health care practitioners can effectively collaborate to this end. In alignment with the mission of the College, primary areas of interest for the Department include urban medicine, service learning, professional roles, medical informatics, sociology of health and illness, relationship skills, evidence-based professional practices, community relations, prevention, and patient-centered inter-professional care.
