Dr. Jaffe received his BA in biology from Lafayette College in 1968 and his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1972.
He opened his first small animal medical and surgical practice in Flanders, N.J. in 1974. Subsequently he opened and operated three more hospitals, one of which was an exclusively feline practice.
In 1999 Dr.Jaffe sold his practices and moved to sunny Southern California. After two years as a writer of creative nonfiction, he decided to join us here at Western. His main areas of interest are dermatology, oncology, and feline medicine. Other than veterinary medicine, his passions include golf, photography, and poker.

Richard Jaffe, VMD joined the CVM faculty in January 2004 as a PBL instructor. He double facilitates first and second year courses, serves as surgical instructor for the third year Shelter Rotation block, and frequently contributes to the teaching of the Clinical Skills course. In addition he is a member of the Admissions and Scholastic Standing Committee. Dr. Jaffe takes an active role in mentoring fourth year students during their selection of rotation sites. He also serves as PBL case editor.
