Dr. Sarma is Professor of Internal Medicine and Founding Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease and Director of Heart and Vascular Center in the Western Diabetes Institute. Prior to coming to WesternU, she was Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine and served as Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Associate Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at LAC+USC Medical Center. Dr. Sarma was formerly Director, Cardiac Exercise Lab at LAC+USC Medical Center; Chief of Cardiology at USC-Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center; Medical Director, Cardiology, Critical Care and Vascular Laboratory at Northridge Hospital Medical Center; and Associate Director, Echocardiography Laboratory at Martin Luther King/Drew Medical Center. Since 1980, she received 39 research grants and published dozens of manuscripts in peer-reviewed medical journals. She is a global authority on heart disease and has lectured at international conferences in Spain, China, Germany, Mexico and India. Dr. Sarma is listed in Marquis Who is Who in America. She is a pioneer in cardiac rehabilitation, preventive cardiology, and the innovative concept of organizing patient-centered integrated practice units around medical conditions such as diabetes.
