All registered students at Western University of Health Sciences are required to have health insurance while they are attending school. You will be automatically enrolled in and charged for the school sponsored insurance plan unless you provide proof of other comparable coverage and a waiver is submitted by the Waiver/Proof of Insurance deadline date. All students will have the opportunity to submit their proof of coverage during the fall 2012 registration process. Patient Care Center (PCC)
Western University of Health Sciences does not provide free medical care to its students via a Student Health Center, but you are welcome to use the services provided at the Patient Care Center (PCC) on campus.
All Students
- Active coverage for the entire school year
- Deductible of $1,000 or less per policy year ($2,000 or less for family)
School Sponsored Plan
If you are not currently covered by another health insurance provider, the school sponsored insurance plan, offered through Nation Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburg, PA and administered by Ascension Benefits & Insurance Solutions, provides access to a network of healthcare providers. - Range from $1,153.25 - $2471.25 per plan year (prices vary depending on length of academic year)

- Prescriptions
- All students enrolling in the school sponsored insurance plan will receive an Express Scripts pharmacy card. Students are asked to take their prescriptions to an Express Scripts pharmacy where they will pay only the co-payment for their prescriptions.
- Co-Pays: $15.00 (Generic), $25.00 (Preferred), Accutane (Generic/Brand Name) is subject to 50% Co-Pay. Lamisil and Sporanex are not covered.
- All prescriptions are paid up to plan maximum.
- Referral Requirement
- The covered student must use the services of the Patient Care Center (PCC) first where treatment will be administered or referral issued. A referral issued by PCC must accompany the claim when submitted. Charges incurred for medical treatment rendered outside of PCC for which no prior referral is obtained will not be paid, except under the following conditions:
- Medical Emergency. The student must return to PCC for necessary follow up care;
- When PCC is closed or when service is rendered at another facility during break or vacation periods;
- Medical care received when the student is more than 25 miles from the PCC;
- Medical care received when a student is no longer able to use PCC due to a change in student status; or
- Pregnancy or maternity care.
- Dependents may also be seen at the PCC but are exempt from the above requirements.

- No vision benefits are provided; however, a vision discount plan is available whereby students will receive a 20% discount on the following vision services at participating retailers (LensCrafters, Wal-Mart Optical, Sears Optical, and Target Optical).
- Routine Eye Examinations, Lenses, Frames, Contact Lenses (excluding disposable or replacement lenses), Cosmetic Extras (tints, coatings, and photochromatic lenses)
