The Winston Award was created in honor of the memory of Winston, a much beloved cocker spaniel who suffered from hemangiosarcoma and additional family pets with cancer. The donor family wishes to encourage veterinary students to pursue the field of veterinary oncology thus facilitating advancements in the treatment and compassionate care of companion animals. Interested students are invited to apply. Details for the award may be found HERE. Two awards are available.This award MUST be used to defray expenses associated with an oncology rotation or to attend a veterinary oncology-related meeting; either of which must be disclosed in the letter of intent.

Preference shall be given to 3rd year students who have financial need, are current and in good standing who have a 3.0 GPA or better with a demonstrated interest/commitment to avian medicine. Recipient should be seeking or have secured a 4th year rotation in avian medicine. The quality of the planned avian animal medicine rotation may also be considered if there are multiple candidates. If there are no suitable 3rd year student applicants, the committee may consider applicants from 2nd year students. Award: This Award recognizes veterinary student leaders and promotes lifelong professional service. Recipients will receive a $1,000 award, complimentary registration, lodging, airfare, and a daily stipend to attend the 2013 Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 17–21, 2013. Each scholarship recipient is also entitled to one additional complimentary registration to a future Annual Conference to be utilized within five years following graduation from veterinary school.
