The PJ/Hart Loving Bond Award is named in honor of two therapy dogs that made significant contributions to the psychosocial welfare of numerous children that they served. The award was established to recognize the accomplishments of a student who is involved in studying the value of human animal interactions and the human animal bond. Available to current CVM students in good standing of any year who apply or are nominated by faculty. Award Criteria: Students judged by CVM faculty for those demonstrating strong communication skills with a client in a clinical setting. To compete for the national award, school winners must submit a video of their client interview. The national winner will receive an additional $2,500 scholarship. Award: This Award recognizes veterinary student leaders and promotes lifelong professional service. Recipients will receive a $1,000 award, complimentary registration, lodging, airfare, and a daily stipend to attend the 2013 Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 17–21, 2013. Each scholarship recipient is also entitled to one additional complimentary registration to a future Annual Conference to be utilized within five years following graduation from veterinary school.

The Winston Award was created in honor of the memory of Winston, a much beloved cocker spaniel who suffered from hemangiosarcoma and additional family pets with cancer. The donor family wishes to encourage veterinary students to pursue the field of veterinary oncology thus facilitating advancements in the treatment and compassionate care of companion animals. Interested students are invited to apply. Details for the award may be found HERE. Two awards are available.This award MUST be used to defray expenses associated with an oncology rotation or to attend a veterinary oncology-related meeting; either of which must be disclosed in the letter of intent.
