Message from the Alumni Association President
 |
Herbert Spencer said that "The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action." We are grateful for the life of work and learning that we have lived since graduating from Western University. Understanding fully that the value of our medical degree is intrinsically linked to the wellbeing of our school, we are pleased and proud to work on behalf of the university.

The graduates of Western University number nearly 5,000. The Alumni Association has been in existence since 1982. Over time, our membership has grown to include approximately 8% of the total graduates. Time and effort have built a small nest egg of long term investments in the hope of one day providing meaningful scholarships for students and other important support. Recently, the Alumni Association Board has established working committees to ensure the longevity of projects. Databases have been built to increase communication between alums and the university. In the summer of 2004 the first online peer reviewed CME programs were launched. Fund raising efforts in the 2003/2004 academic year provided direct support to programs in the form of educational materials.
Thomas Edison said that: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." There remains much to do in the way of fundraising, developing perks of association membership and establishing a legacy that will live well into this new century. The Alumni Association is poised to begin important work that will benefit students, the university and alumni.
