DPT NewsPT Student Receives University Alumni Memorial Award
Erica Behr, MPT '04, was awarded the Alumni Memorial Award, which is given to one graduate from the entire University student body who exhibits the dedication and enthusiasm of a future alumnus/a.
Erica received the award based on her academic achievements as well as her service to the university and community.
Erica participated in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) conferences and meetings and served as the student representative from WesternU to the Greater Los Angeles District of the California Physical Therapy Association (a chapter of APTA).
She tutored students while at WesternU, even while on her final clinical internship, and led study groups in the musculoskeletal course.
Her leadership and giving spirit are reflected in many activities she was involved with, including serving as treasurer for the Physical Therapy Awareness Club and fundraising chair for the Sports Medicine Club. In addition, Erica volunteered her time in high school sports programs in the community. For example, Erica helped with sports physicals at Montclair High School, and she presented health prevention programs at Roynon Elementary School. Erica also volunteered in the Outdoor Adventure Program at Casa Colina along with being a reading tutor at Roynon Elementary School.
Assistant Professor Dayle Armstrong, PT, MS, says of Erica: "She is a shining example of our students who are dedicated to becoming competent, caring, culturally sensitive, reflective practitioners. We are pleased to have her as an alumna representing the Department of Physical Therapy and Western University of Health Sciences."
