Vision:
Western University of Health Science s College of Allied Health Professions seeks to be the college of choice for students seeking to become Health Professions Educators, Health Care Systems Managers and Administrators, Community Health Promotion Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Physical Therapists.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the College of Allied Health Professions mirrors that of Western University of Health Sciences, while giving special emphasis to the role of the College in helping to educate and train an allied health care workforce for the State of California and the western United States.
The Mission of the College of Allied Health Professions is to support Western University of Health Science's mission by:
- Providing allied health students with the knowledge and skills basic to the practice of their disciplines, instilling them with the fundamental attitudes of professionalism, teaching, compassionate patient care, service to the community, and a desire for lifelong learning.
- Preparing educators and clinicians to teach and serve in the health professions.
- Providing excellent educational programs for allied health professions students, including physician assistant and physical therapy students.
- Enhancing the quality of life for a diverse population through the provision of services that promote and model excellence, cost-effectiveness, and innovation in healthcare; promote research regarding healthcare; and disseminate health information to the public.
Goals:
- To educate an allied health workforce that helps to meet the needs of the State of California and the west.
- To support students, alumni, and practitioners in their professional education and in the provision of allied health services to the people of California and the west.
- Solicit input from local and regional health care providers regarding program planning and curricula development.
- To recruit and admit the most qualified professional students to the College of Allied Health Professions.
- Engage in the Strategic Enrollment Management efforts of the University.
- Develop an advising/mentoring process that focuses on retention, progression, and graduation of competent practitioners.
- Engage in educational outreach activities to K-12 and college students by creating educational partnerships.
- To ensure the availability of adequate patient populations and practice sites for all students in the allied health professions.
- Explore new relationships and partnerships with local medical centers and practitioners.
- Explore centralizing rotations across colleges at WesternU.
- Enhance credentialing efforts of preceptors and sites.
- To further develop research activities in the College of Allied Health Professions.
- Seek and develop opportunities for funding from private and public sources.
- Further develop research infrastructure within the College.
- Participate in university-wide research committees.
- To achieve an environment and culture that supports all members of the College.
- To ensure an environment and culture that empower all persons in the College to maximize their potential as contributing members in the education of students, in research and clinical activities, and in service to the community.
- Provide services that support the growth and development of employees in expanded knowledge, self-confidence, and motivation.
- Increase opportunities for faculty and staff development.
