Courses Offered

Two COMP courses that are taught predominantly by BMS faculty are Molecular and Cellular Basis of Medicine (MCBM) and Introduction to Disease, Immunity, and Therapeutics (IDIT). Both courses are presented to students in the first year of the DO program, MCBM in the fall semester, and IDIT immediately afterward, in the beginning of the spring semester.

MCBM is an 8-week interdisciplinary course that includes the BMS disciplines of Biochemistry and Physiology, as well as lectures in Developmental Histology and Medical Genetics, taught by faculty from other departments.

IDIT is a 6-week interdisciplinary course that includes the BMS disciplines of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pharmacology, as well as lectures delivered by faculty from the Department of Pathology.

In addition to these two courses, BMS faculty is involved in teaching in Systems during the first and second years of the DO program. These Systems include Blood and Lymphatics, Neuroscience, Musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular, Renal, Respiratory, Endocrine, Reproductive, Gastrointestinal, and Dermal. BMS faculty members also teach in other DO courses including (1) Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, (2) Pediatrics, (3) Geriatrics, and (4) Clinical Integration.
