Student Affairs

The Office of COMP Student Affairs exists for the purpose of enhancing the quality of COMP student life by working to promote a culture conducive to student success and optimal professional development. To this end, the Office tracks the progression of medical students from admission to graduation, working in conjunction with various Western University committees and programs in a pro-active capacity to identify barriers and ensure that cultural, social, cognitive, and personal issues are effectively addressed. The Office serves as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration to provide on-going support and assistance.

Specific services provided to students by the Office of COMP Student Affairs include:
  • Academic advisement
  • Early intervention for students experiencing academic difficulty
  • Faculty advisor and second year companion program for in-coming students
  • Directing students in need of personal counseling services
  • Working with the Center for Disability Issues and the Health Professions for students requiring accommodations
  • Connecting students to the LEAD Office for tutoring, academic assistance, and career preparation
  • Handling excused and unexcused class absences, tardiness, leaves of absence (LOA) requests, voluntary withdrawals, and dismissals
  • Working with University Student Affairs in the orchestration of Commencement, the White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, New Student Orientation, Military Commissioning Dinner, Alumni mixers, and the Graduation Dinner/Dance
  • Arrangements for Board Exam Review
