Research Interests

The primary focus of Dr Henson s research is to identify the molecular events that predict the biological behavior of individual head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. Specifically, Dr. Henson has been investigating the novel role of Galanin and the Galanin Receptors in tumor development and progression. His studies support further investigation of these proteins as objective markers and specific treatment targets to reduce the morbidity of oropharyngeal cancers. As biomedical research continues its trend toward a translational research objective, Dr. Henson s research intends to partner basic science knowledge with practical clinical application. Recently, he was a member of a team pioneering the use of salivary biomarkers for the early detection of head and neck tumors.
