Western University Medical CenterWESTERN UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER Patient Care Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Opened in 1984, Western University's Medical Center, is a Family-Medicine teaching practice, which focuses on the health care needs of disadvantaged patient communities, as well as patients from participating managed-care organizations, by providing high quality healthcare and excellent clinical learning opportunities for many of the University's students on clinical rotations starting in their third year of medical school and pharmacy school; and in the second year for physician-assistant students. Osteopathic physicians, certified physician-assistants and pharmacists, are all members of the University's faculty who work with medical center's staff and students to see approximately 15,000 patient encounters annually. Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), a unique medical specialty is also offered. The medical center's patient base is approximately two-thirds MediCal (Medicaid), and includes up to 2,000 encounters per year of patient care for the indigent through a partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. In addition, the Medical Center's physicians see patients in regionally located group homes for the disabled and profoundly disabled, as well as providing off campus primary medical care for individuals with HIV/AIDS through an affiliation with the Inland AIDS Project located in Riverside, CA. Many of the Medical Center's physicians also provide health screenings for youth groups such as the Boy Scouts and various youth athletic programs, including on-field sports medicine for many area high school football programs.
