J-1 Exchange Visitor Program The J-1 Exchange Visitor Program is administered by the U.S. Department of State's (DOS) Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, as amended. The purpose of the Exchange Visitor Program is "to promote international educational and cultural exchange in order to develop mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries."
Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU), as a designated J-1 Program Sponsor, is committed to global engagement through the exchange of knowledge shared between scholars of other countries and the WesternU campus community. The J-1 Program, in support of world peace, helps contribute to intellectual and cultural diversity through dedicated service to our visiting international scholars.
International Scholar Relations (ISR) is the official University office responsible primarily for assisting international scholars who wish to participate in research at our University as well as the visiting scholars' vital informational resource. The service provided by ISR is based on the administrative responsibilities assigned to the University by the Department of State (DOS) Exchange Visitor Program and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
ISR will provide advice and assistance regarding government regulations and is the only official University office with authorization to issue nonimmigrant visa documents for the J-1 Program.
We invite international scholars to join our WesternU family where respect, caring and compassion are values we share.
