Exit Loan Counseling

Graduate Exit Loan Counseling To be in compliance with Federal Regulations, exit interviews must be conducted prior to graduation on loans you received from the Department of Education and Health and Human Services. This includes the Federal Stafford loan, Grad Plus loan and the Perkins loan.

Students will need to complete an exit for each of the programs they borrowed from, so for example; if you borrowed from the Stafford loan and the Grad Plus loan you will complete an exit for each of those programs. When you are ready to begin your exit counseling session (s) you will begin by clicking on Graduate Exit Loan Counseling, you will first be directed to create an account, once you have registered you will then select from the left hand menu, Choose Your Exam select the exam you want to take, set up your student profile/general information, set up your student loan debt evaluation or continue through those screens, read through the study review guide then take the quiz at the end, once you have completed the exam it will prompt you to select another exam. When you have completed the exit loan counseling session please print a copy of your confirmation for your records. TO MEET GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS WESTERN UNIVERSITY MUST RECEIVE YOUR CONFIRMATION NO LATER THAN MARCH 31, 2008.

Loan History
To access your Federal Stafford or Federal Perkins loan history you may go to www.nslds.ed.gov, the National Student Loan Data Service. In order to access your information you will need to enter your Social Security number, birth date, the first two letters of your last name and your FAFSA PIN number. If you do not know your FAFSA PIN number then follow the instructions under PIN Registration. By accessing NSLDS you will be able to view your loan amounts, outstanding principle, outstanding interest, lender and servicer information including addresses, phone numbers and web sites.

"Print Tip": When printing your data from NSLDS you may need to change the font size to 10 in order to print all of the information on each page.

Alternative Loan Borrowers - alternative loan history can be viewed in BanWeb. Go to BanWeb and login to secure area, go to award history and then to student message form.

Grad Plus Loans - Any student that has borrowed a Grad Plus loan needs to remember there is NO grace period and must contact your lender/servicer to request deferment prior to graduating.

Loan Calculator - www.finaid.org - the loan calculator will help you compute and estimate the size of your monthly loan payment and annual salary required to manage the payment.

Student Aid Ombudsman - www.ombudsman.ed.gov - the Federal Student Aid Ombudsman of the Department of Education helps resolve disputes and solve other problems with federal student loans. This site also provides tools and checklists as well as other resources to help you resolve your problem.
