Institutional Scholarships & FellowshipsGraduate Teaching Fellowship In Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
The Fellowship program in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) is designed to expand the educational opportunities for osteopathic medical students while they assist in all phases of the department's operation. They assist in lecturing and teaching practical skills to graduate students. Fellows are encouraged to develop research projects with the assistance of the basic sciences faculty and have the opportunity to receive clinical training under the supervision of faculty members.
Fellows are selected from each MSII class annually, and there are a total of 18 teaching Fellows in the department. Applications are accepted during the fall semester of each school year. Recipients will be interviewed and selected during the spring semester of the same academic year on the basis of interest in osteopathic concepts and the development of greater skills in their application; interest in teaching; academic achievement; and conduct which provides a role model for first-year students. In order to participate in the Fellowship program, each student takes five years, instead of four, to complete all of their educational requirements, including hospital and private practice clinical rotations, for the DO degree.
WesternU's Osteopathic Teaching Fellowship program is designed to provide breadth and depth to the Fellow's own education, while at the same time offer a teacher-training opportunity; the first step toward faculty development for the future. There is a growing demand for qualified teachers in this area in all of the osteopathic medical colleges.
Fellows receive a full tuition/fees waiver the third and fourth years and an annual stipend for their fifth year, payable monthly. There is no tuition charged the fifth year, only a graduation fee. Mandatory fees must be paid, however, during the third and fourth years. Students on military scholarships are not eligible for the program.
To apply, please call the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Department at (909) 469-5282.
