This program is open to third- or fourth-year medical students who are African Americans, mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans, Native Hawaiians, Alaska Natives, and American Indians. Applicants must be attending an M.D.-granting institution or college of osteopathic medicine in California . They must be interested in a clinical rotation at an approved community health center in California dedicated to medically underserved populations. Selection is based on demonstrated commitment to practice in California, interest in community-based primary care or research, academic performance, financial need, and leadership. Subject Coverage: Medical sciences; Osteopathy. Selection is need based.

Female residents of California who are seeking a degree in the broad field of medicine and have completed their first year of graduate work in their field may apply for the Ruth G. White Scholarship. This award was established as a tribute to the past president of the California chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Scholarships are awarded each Spring to worthy California women. The awards are based upon character rating, integrity, academic excellence and financial need, and are renewable if a recipient's need continues and she is doing well scholastically.

Applicants must be California residents enrolled at the University of California at Davis School of Medicine, the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine, or Stanford University School of Medicine. They must be interested in either 1) a clinical rotation at an approved community health center in the San Francisco Bay area dedicated to medically underserved populations, or 2) a basic science or clinical science research project in an area of critical need (e.g., HIV-AIDS care and research, hypertension, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, substance abuse, women's health research). Selection is based on demonstrated commitment to practice in California , interest in community-based primary care or research, academic performance, financial need, and leadership. |

For students enrolled in or entering medical school. Established in 1962-63, this scholarship fund was financed originally through excess funds accumulated by the Sabin Oral Polio Sunday Clinics. Thirteen physicians who are members of the Fresno-Madera Society form the committee which administers these scholarships. Financial need and high academic performance are also requirements.

The Hillel Medical Scholarship Program was founded in 1950 by a group of concerned professionals led by Rabbi Juhudah M. Cohen, who was the Pacific Regional director of Hillel. The goal of the program is to provide scholarships of $1,000 to financially needy medical students. In order to be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need and then the awards will be based on scholarship and merit. Preferences are given to California residents and students, and members of Hillel nationwide. All communications should be by mail or fax.
