Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Outside ScholarshipsResearch Funding: The Geraldine R. Dodge Veterinary Fellowship Program
This summer grant funds 20 veterinary students from schools of veterinary medicine roughout the country for $5,000 grants to pursue a summer project of their design or any endeavor they feel passionate about and which holds promise for advancing the humane treatment of animals. The purpose of this grant is to enable students to step outside the traditional constraints of veterinary education to bring new and creative problem solving perspectives to pressing animal related issues of the day. Topics may be wide ranging and projects may be conducted either in the United States or abroad. Topics include, but are not limited to, veterinary ethics, economics, domestic animal-wildlife interactions, animal welfare in the laboratory, pet overpopulation, livestock, agriculture, aquaculture, international studies and human/wildlife interactions. It must be emphasized that these projects must have promise for advancing humane treatment of animals.

Research Funding: Jastro-Shields Graduate Research Awards
Jastro-Shields research awards are awarded to outstanding graduate students in recognition of their potential to carry out research projects related to the missions of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as outlined in written proposals. The maximum amount of an award is $2,000. Announcement of awards is made in June and awards are available after July 1st. Students in the School of Veterinary Medicine, in order to be eligible for this type of funding, must have a faculty mentor who has an appointment in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. A number of SVM faculty have such appointments, especially those whose positions are partly funded by the agricultural experiment station. These faculty are typically engaged in food animal research. This award concerns research in food and fiber producing animals.

Saul T. Wilson Jr. Scholarship
The Veterinary Services staff of APHIS is proud to sponsor the Saul T. Wilson, Jr., Scholarship Program in veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences. Dr. Saul T. Wilson dedicated his professional career to public veterinary medicine within APHIS and at Tuskegee University since his retirement from Government service. He has made outstanding contributions to the health of the Nation's livestock and poultry through an illustrious Federal career dedicated to programs designed to control and eradicate animal and poultry diseases. US citizens enrolled full-time at an accredited university. Graduates students must have not completed more than one year of study in Veterinary Medicine. Research Funding: Norval Young and Career Development Awards
The Norval Young and Career Development Awards are offered by the Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine to students with research interests that focus on tropical and/or international animal health problems. The Norval Young award provides support for a graduate student to present research results at the STVM meeting. The career development award provides research for a student who is doing a project on tropical and/or international animal health problems.
