DO FAQs - Prerequisites
Is a bachelor's degree required to apply? No. But it is strongly recommended. 100 percent of our accepted students have either earned a bachelor's degree, completed the equivalent in hours in a professional program, and/or earned another graduate or professional degree. Do you require any standardized tests? Yes. You are required to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). You can take the MCAT up to and including the August prior to matriculation. Example: If you are applying to start classes in fall 2006 then the last MCAT that you could take, for that application period, would be the August 2005 exam. If an applicant has not taken the MCAT at the time of application he or she can indicate that he/she intends to take it the August prior to matriculation. MCAT scores cannot be more than three years old at the time of application. Do you require a minimum Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) score to apply? No, but the average MCAT score of admitted students is 9.0. How old can my MCAT scores be? The MCAT can be taken no more than three (3) years prior to application. I already have a medical degree from another country. Am I still required to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)? Yes, the MCAT exam is a requirement for the application process even though you have earned a foreign medical degree. The MCAT scores cannot be older than three (3) years. What are the prerequisite courses for the DO program? All applicants must complete a minimum of 90 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university, including eight (8) semester units of:
and six (6) semester units of: Can I have prerequisite courses in progress at the time of application? How many? Yes. While we do not have a set number of courses you must have completed at the time of application, it is advisable to have at least ¾ of the prerequisites completed by the time of application. Should you be accepted, all prerequisites MUST be completed prior to matriculation. Do you accept College Level Equivalency Program (CLEP) or A/P credits? Yes. We accept CLEP and A/P credit as long as the course credits are specified on the transcript and are class specific. Lump sums of CLEP or A/P will only meet the requirement for hours completed. Your prerequisite courses are in semester credits. My undergraduate work is in quarter credits - how does AACOMAS convert those credit hours? Please use the following conversion tables:
What is the average GPA and MCAT score? The average GPA is Overall 3.45; Science 3.41; Non-Science 3.50. The average MCAT score is 9.0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
