Transfer Procedures

WesternU/COMP offers a transfer program for persons who have completed one or more years of medical studies at a medical school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and whose curriculum is academically compatible with that of WesternU/COMP.

Candidates seeking transfer must be in good academic standing at the school where they are enrolled and be eligible for continuation there. Candidates are expected to meet the same entrance prerequisites that are required of our first-year applicants. Please refer to the Admissions Policies and Procedures section in the University catalogue on our website: www.westernu.edu for specific information regarding these requirements.

Transfers from LCME accredited medical colleges to a College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) shall require that no less than the last fifty percent (50%) of instruction be completed within the COM. In the case of such transfers, the COM requirement for osteopathic manipulative medicine must be completed prior to graduation.

Students wishing to transfer to Western University/COMP must:

  • Contact Danielle Kearns, Admissions Counselor at dkearns@westernu.edu for details regarding transfer request and curriculum compatibility.
  • Complete a primary application with AACOMAS. Applications are available annually beginning May 1st at www.aacom.org. (Indicate in the Personal Statement section that they are applying as a transfer sudent and the reason they are applying for transfer).
  • Submit a letter of support for the transfer and confirmation of good standing from the Dean of their medical college at the time of application.
  • Submit a Supplementary Transfer Application with a $65.00 application fee.
  • Official MCAT score

Students wishing to transfer into the MSII class year must:

  • Complete an application with AACOMAS before March 1st
  • Complete the supplementary application before March 15th

Students wishing to transfer into the MSIII class year must:

  • Complete an application with AACOMAS before December 15th
  • Complete the supplementary application before January 1st
  • Take COMLEX Level I - first iteration (usually June annually) and provide proof of registration at the time of application.

If an interview is granted, candidates are invited to the campus at their own expense. Candidates should plan to spend a half-day on campus for orientation and interview. Transfer candidates for the MSII class year will be notified by the WesternU/COMP Admissions Office of their transfer admission decision by May 1st annually. Transfer candidates for the MSIII class year will be notified by the WesternU/COMP Admissions Office of their transfer admission decsion before April 15.
