Can I take prerequisites at a community college?
Yes, prerequisites completed at a community college are accepted and given full consideration.

Do you give preference to applicants who completed their prerequisites at a university over someone who took them at a community college?
No, prerequisites are given the same consideration whether they were completed at a community college or at a university. However, a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the sciences is a proven indicator for success in nursing.

Can I be in the process of completing prerequisites at the time of application?
Yes, however, it is recommended that students complete all but one prerequisite course by the Spring semester of the year applying. The admissions committee understands that it is difficult to secure a seat in science prerequisite courses. Therefore, it is recommended that all prerequisites be completed no later than June to accurately assess GPA and assure than an applicant is positioned for admission.

Do I need experience in the health care field? Is experience preferred?
No, experience is not necessary to obtain acceptance into the MSN-E program. This program is designed for people without experience in healthcare. The admission committee finds that students with degrees in other disciplines are often transferable to nursing. While experience is not required, exposure to professional health care and the ability to discuss your understanding of the RN role will strengthen your application.

I have a master's degree already; do I need to take the GRE or the MAT?
The GRE or MAT is required for all applicants. If you have already taken either test, your previous scores can be submitted since there is no expiration for official scores. Be aware, however, that official GRE scores are only kept on file at the testing agency for five years. If you took the test more than five years ago, you will need to retake the test in order to provide official scores.
