Application Process (Class Entering fall 2009)

Primary Application Process and Deadline (CASPA

The Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA) is the centralized application service for Western University Physician Assistant program. CASPA offers PA program applicants a web-based application service and will allow applicants to use a single application and one set of materials to apply to multiple PA programs. Western University's application deadline to apply to CASPA is November 1. If all application materials (including official transcripts) are not received by CASPA by November 1 your application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed. It is your responsibility to follow CASPA's instructions. Failure to do so will delay processing of your application and you may be ineligible to continue in Western University's application process. You should apply to CASPA at least 8 weeks prior to the application deadline. Western University is not responsible for delays due to web congestion and internet traffic. Submitting materials early will ensure timely processing and help avoid delays.

For more information regarding CASPA, visit their website by clicking on CASPA or call (240) 497-1895.

Supplemental Application Deadlines

In addition to the CASPA application, Western University requires applicants to submit a supplemental application and a non-refundable application fee of $50.00. The required minimum GPA is 2.50 overall and 2.70 for prerequisites. After the CASPA application has been received, all applicants who meet our minimum overall GPA of 2.50 will be notified by postcard and/or e-mail indicating that the supplemental application may be printed and mailed to the admissions office. However, this does not ensure that you will meet our minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.70 or that all prerequisite classes will be acceptable. A final evaluation and calculation will be completed upon receipt of your supplemental application. All accompanying documents may be printed from this web page. The application packet is due within 30 days from receipt of the supplemental application or February 1 (final deadline) whichever comes first. Western University is not responsible for delays in mail delivery. DO NOT SUBMIT A SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION UNTIL YOU RECEIVE NOTIFICATION FROM THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE. ANY SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BEFORE THIS NOTIFICATION WILL BE RETURNED TO THE APPLICANT.

Applicants with Foreign Course Work

Applicants who have completed any college/professional course work outside the United States (including Canada) must submit the transcripts for evaluation to one of the following services:

World Education Services
www.wes.org
Josef Silny & Associates
www.jsilny.com
Educational Credential Evaluators,
Inc.
www.ece.org
International Educational Research Foundation, Inc.
www.ierf.org
American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO)

A course-by-course evaluation is required and all course work must be designated as undergraduate, graduate or professional. Western University will only honor evaluations from one of the above services. The evaluation must be included with the application packet.

Interview Process

On-campus interviews of selected applicants are typically held late February and mid-March in Pomona. During the interview process, you will meet individually with an interview team which may consist of the Dean of the College of Allied Health Professions, PA Program Chair, PA Admissions Committee, PA Admissions Committee Chair, PA faculty, University faculty, students, graduate PAs and community PAs.

The interviewers will discuss various topics including academics, personal preparedness and commitment to the PA program, the PA field, and community involvement. Interviewees are rated on a standard evaluation form relative to each of these variables.

After the conclusion of the interviews, the evaluation forms are reviewed by the PA Admissions Committee, which recommends to accept, deny or place the applicant on an alternate list.

The Western University PA program does not accept transfer students, nor is admission to the program deferred.
