DPT FAQs - General

How does the transitional DPT (TDPT) differ from a post-professional or advanced DPT?    Is this an advanced DPT degree?

This program is designed to meet the expanding role of the physical therapist as we move towards possible true direct access.  It is designed to provide the courses that were not part of the curricula when many currently licensed therapists completed their respective PT education programs.  For these reasons, it is not the same as a post-professional or advanced DPT which goes beyond the entry level preparation.

Must I be accepted to the program before I start taking courses?

No.  You may take up to 3 courses as a "non-degree" student before formally applying to the program.  Units for those courses will apply to the degree as long as you have been officially accepted to the program prior to completion of the fourth course.  Note that enrollment in courses is limited to 20 students and students who are formally accepted into the program or in the process are given priority over non-degree students.

How long does the average student take to complete the degree?

If a student takes one course per trimester (3 courses per year), they can complete the program in a little less than 2 ½ years.

How much is tuition and when do I pay for each course?

Tuition is currently $300 per unit.  You pay for the course at the time of registration which is 2-6 weeks prior to the start of the course.   You may pay by check or credit card.

Can I receive financial aid?

Yes.  All students enrolled in a professional graduate program are eligible for financial aid.  For further information contact the Financial Aid Office at 909-469-5353 or go to Financial Aid section of our web site.
