Description:

The Associate Dean for Research will provide research leadership to the faculty of the College, and encourage research consistent with the mission, goals and founding principles of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential Job Functions

The Associate Dean for Research of the College of Veterinary Medicine will be responsible for:
1. The development, management, coordination, and evaluation of all college-associated research activity.

2. The performance of all appropriate duties and the identification of new initiatives necessary for the continual improvement and seamless operation of college research programs and the administrative processes.

3. Effective communication on research-related matters within the campus community as well as between the academic units and the external alliances and constituencies.

4. Enforcement of all University and College regulations and policies including the Founding Principles of the College and relevant law.

5. Enhancement of faculty research through the identification of, and the acquisition of grants and contracts, both internal and external.

6. Fiscal management and oversight of resource distribution.

7. Developing reports, research policies, procedures and managing resources in an integrated and collaborative research environment.

8. Mentoring faculty members and coaching the skills of grant writing, data records management, data analysis and publication of results.

9. Continued expansion and strengthening of strategic alliances with regional businesses and industries, governmental and community agencies, and other institutions supporting relevant research.

10. Participating in the employment, management and evaluation of faculty and staff of the college

11. Facilitating the education of veterinary students by serving as a small group facilitator and becoming involved in other courses that encompass the curriculum.

12. The accomplishment of any other task that is assigned by the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop new research programs, and secure funding from private and public sources, and will be encouraged to maintain an active and scholarly research program as appropriate to obtain or maintain professorial tenure in the college.

Qualifications Standard

The Ph.D. degree in a biomedical field of study, and an outstanding career in funded research and scholarly publication are required; candidates with the DVM (or equivalent) degree will be preferred.
