F-1 Student Transfer and Change of Visa Status

F-1 Student Transfer

F-1 regulations permit a student to transfer from one Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) approved school to another. To do this, both schools must update the student's record in SEVIS.

After you have been accepted to Western University of Health Sciences please provide the following information so that a transfer of schools in the SEVIS system can be processed.
  • Completed F-1 Transfer Form. Click the link for a printable copy of the form.
  • Current proof of financial support for one (1) year of enrollment at Western University.

Note: The Transfer form is in PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader® to view it. To download a free copy, please visit our Plug-Ins page.

Please provide one of the following documents: an official statement or letter from your bank; or a letter of affidavit of support from a company or international sponsor.
  • A photocopy of the I-20 form from the school you are currently attending.
  • A copy of your passport and I-94 card.

The Transfer Form must be in a sealed envelope from the school you are transferring from. You may mail or deliver to Western University. The school you are transferring from may also fax the Transfer Form.

Change of Visa Status

If you intend to pursue full-time studies in the United States, F-1 student status is appropriate. If you are currently in the United States in another nonimmigrant status, there are two ways to obtain F-1 student status:
  • Travel Abroad
  • Application to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) without departing the US. This process can take up to 8 months to process the application. You must apply for your change of status before you matriculate.

Please contact your Designated School Official (DSO) immediately after your acceptance to discuss your plans for change in status.
