Academic and Study Skills Assessment
Below is a list of the special examinations available for you to take to help assess your strengths and weaknesses with academic and study skills. These exams are all available at the LEAD Office. Please drop in and ask to receive a copy to complete. The LEAD staff can help you score and interpret the results with you.
- LASSI - The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory
The Learning and Study Skills Inventory is a quick, 77-item survey that assesses your study habits in ten different areas: Attitude and Interest, Motivation, Time Management, Anxiety, Concentration, Information Processing, Selecting Main Ideas, Use of Study Aids, Self-Testing and Reviewing, and Preparing for Tests.
- The Learning Styles Inventory
This is a 24-item survey that will help you gain a better understanding of yourself as a learner. Identifying your learning style will allow you to adopt or develop strategies which will enhance your learning potential and academic performance. After completing the survey you will be able to define whether you are an Auditory, Visual, or Tactile learner.
- The Study Skills Assessment Inventory
This is a 21-item self-reporting survey that assesses your study skills in 7 areas: Time Scheduling, Concentration, Listening & Note Taking, Critical Reading, Exams, Getting More Out of Reading, and Writing Skills.
- The Nelson-Denny Reading Test
This is a two-part test of vocabulary and reading comprehension. There are 80 vocabulary items and 38 reading comprehension items. It takes roughly 45 minutes to complete both parts of the test. You will receive scores that can assess your academic achievement in reading comprehension, vocabulary and reading rate.
- The Test Wiseness Test
This test is a 23-question exam that helps determine your test-taking skills with multiple choice, true-false, fill-in and essay-type questions.
- The Test Anxiety Scale This 37-item survey will help you determine your level of anxiety, especially when taking tests. After completing the survey you will know whether your level of anxiety when taking a test is Low, Medium, or High.
Note: It is recommended that you take this and the following exam together to more accurately reveal your anxiety levels.
- The State-Trait Anxiety Scale
This survey of 40 items will provide you with a more in-depth assessment of your levels of anxiety in two dimensions: "State," or your level of anxiety at the present moment, and "Trait," which measures your level of anxiety over time.
