How to Request Tutoring Assistance

Guidelines for Obtaining a Tutor

  • You can sign up for tutoring assistance in the LEAD Office.

  • If tutors are available for the subject requested, then the student will be assigned to work with a tutor. The assignment is made via email. In most cases, students will be assigned to a tutoring group of 3 to 5 individuals. Because of a shortage of tutors, one-on-one tutoring is reserved for students recommended by appropriate faculty, staff, or administration to get one-on-one tutoring.

  • The tutees contact the tutor and arrange for a meeting. Because of the volume of students receiving tutoring, the LEAD Office does not schedule meetings for tutees.

  • A tutee may request a specific tutor, however, there is no guarantee that this request will be granted.

  • All students are encouraged to discuss their academic problems with LEAD counselors, their Faculty Mentor, and/or the Course Instructor.

  • Students receiving tutoring are requested to return to the LEAD Office to discuss academic progress. It is anticipated that most tutees will need fewer tutoring hours as they develop and practice good study skills and join study groups. Tutees are matched with tutors on a first- come, first-served basis--a good reason to come in early to sign up.

  • Any tutorial assistance a student receives outside of the LEAD Office--from a friend, classmate, etc.--will not be paid by LEAD, unless the tutor and tutee fill out proper forms in the LEAD Office.

  • Any problems tutees may encounter with tutors should be reported to the LEAD Office as soon as possible.

  • If tutees want to discontinue their tutoring assistance, they should notify their tutors, as well as the LEAD Office.

  • Tutees are expected to be punctual and keep all appointments with their tutors. If they cannot keep an appointment, they are expected to notify the tutor.

  • Be aware that matching students and tutors is a LEAD priority and handled as quickly as possible. However, the timely fulfilling of students tutorial needs is a matter of supply and demand--of how many students answer LEAD's perpetual request for tutors and how many students seek tutoring services.

  • Students who do not follow these guidelines may be denied tutoring assistance.
