Archives and Special Collections
Historical Museum
The Historical Museum holds a collection of over 100 medical instruments and pharmacy items. These items are still in the process of being identified and catalogued.
Special Collections
Our Reading Room collection consists of more than 400 rare and important older medical books and journals in addition to papers, pamphlets, and photographs relating to the health sciences. The collection's strength is in the area of osteopathic medicine as well as the history of medicine. Two notable additions to our collection are the first edition copies of The Autobiography of A. T. Still, signed by A. T. Still, and the Louis C. Chandler Papers. Dr. Chandler was a prominent osteopathic physician and surgeon whose accomplishments include holding the office of president at the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons from 1920-1922 and chief of staff from 1930-1934 at the Los Angeles County Osteopathic Hospital, unit No.2, now the Los Angeles County Hospital. His daughter Mrs. Ruth Steen donated the Chandler papers to the library in 1980.
Our collection continues to grow and receives its acquisitions through donations. Museum and reading room hours are 8 am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Please call (909) 469-5323 for visitor information.
