Access Medicine
McGraw-Hill's Access Medicine is an online resource that provides services for physicians, students, and health professionals who need immediate access to authoritative and current medical data which is updated daily. Includes full-text electronic access to medical reference books, a differential diagnosis tool, practice guidelines, and patient education material. The following title is available through Access Medicine:

Clinical Evidence
Clinical Evidence summarizes the current state of knowledge about the prevention and treatment of clinical conditions. These summaries are based on thorough searches and appraisals of the literature and describe the best available evidence from systematic reviews, randomized control trials, and observational studies where appropriate. It does not make recommendations.

DynaMed
DynaMed is updated daily and monitors the content of over 500 medical journals and systematic evidence review databases directly and indirectly by using many journal review services. Each publication is reviewed cover-to-cover, and each article is evaluated for clinical relevance and scientific validity. The new evidence is then integrated with existing content, and overall conclusions are changed as appropriate representing a synthesis of the best available evidence. Through this process of systematic literature surveillance, the best available evidence determines the content of DynaMed.

MD Consult
MD Consult Core Service helps answer clinical questions and stay abreast of recent developments by integrating medical reference books, medical journals and clinics, MEDLINE comprehensive drug information, peer-reviewed clinical practice guidelines, customizable patient education handouts, and daily personalized clinical updates. The Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library has access to the following eBooks through MD Consult:

PubMed
PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's search service that provides free access to millions of citations in Medline, PreMedline, and other related databases.

ScienceDirect
ScienceDirect is a single source for scientific, technical, and medical information on the Internet. Researchers can access journal titles and full-text articles and search the abstract and indexing databases.

Audio-Digest

Audio-Digest programs are continuing education audio lectures by experts in their field. The library subscribes to 8 Audio-Digest specialties, including Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, and Psychiatry.

Audio-Digest MP3 Format
The library has the current year of its Audio Digest collection available in MP3 format.

Audio-Digest CDs and Cassettes
The library retains CDs and cassettes from the previous five years. Compact discs holding are from 2004 - 2007; cassettes from 2002 and 2003. These formats are available for checkout at the library.

BMC Psychiatry Journal
BMC Psychiatry is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, as well as related molecular genetics, pathophysiology, and epidemiology.

Directory of Open Access Journals in Psychiatry
The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content. They define open access journals as journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. From the BOAI definition [1] of "open access" they take the right of users to "read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles" as mandatory for a journal to be included in the directory.

Open Psychiatry Journal
The Open Psychiatry Journal is an Open Access online journal, which publishes research articles, reviews, and letters in all areas of pre-clinical and clinical research in psychiatry. OPJ is a peer-reviewed journal, aims to provide the most complete and reliable source of information on current developments in the field. The emphasis will be on publishing quality papers rapidly and freely available to researchers worldwide.

Professional Associations and Organizations:

American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
The AACAP, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 1953. It is a membership based organization, composed of over 7,500 child and adolescent psychiatrists and other interested physicians. Its members actively research, evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders and pride themselves on giving direction to and responding quickly to new developments in addressing the health care needs of children and their families. The AACAP widely distributes information here, and elsewhere, in a effort to promote an understanding of mental illnesses and remove the stigma associated with them; advance efforts in prevention of mental illnesses, and assure proper treatment and access to services for children and adolescents.

American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists
The American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists was founded in 1975 by George Winokur MD and others (including many of his students). They shared the belief that a wealth of clinically relevant data is available in every psychiatrist's personal practice experience. The organization was created to provide a forum to share information for psychiatrists engaged in direct patient care; and to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments relevant to the practice of psychiatry.

American Academy of Neurology
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN), established in 1948, is an international professional association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders. The AAN is strongly committed to its mission and focuses its efforts on ensuring the reality of the principles and standards set forth in the AAN mission statement. The American Academy of Neurology is a medical specialty society established to advance the art and science of neurology, and thereby promote the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders.

American Association of Neurological Surgeons
The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is the organization that speaks for all of neurosurgery. The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to promote the highest quality of patient care.

American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc.
The mission of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. is to serve the public interest and the professions of psychiatry and neurology by promoting excellence in practice through certification and maintenance of certification processes.

American Medical Student Association
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), with a half-century history of medical student activism, is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. Today, AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. American Neurological Association
The American Neurological Association is a professional society of academic neurologists and neuroscientists devoted to advancing the goals of academic neurology; to training and educating neurologists and other physicians in the neurologic sciences; and to expanding both our understanding of diseases of the nervous system and our ability to treat them.

American Psychological Association
Based in Washington, DC, the American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With 148,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide. The objectives of the American Psychological Association shall be to advance psychology as a science and profession and as a means of promoting health, education, and human welfare.

American Psychiatric Association
The American Psychiatric Association is a medical specialty society recognized world-wide. Its over 35,000 U.S. and international member physicians work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorder, including mental retardation and substance-related disorders. It is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry. Its vision is a society that has available, accessible quality psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
