AccessMedicineAccessMedicine is an online resource that provides services for physicians, students, and health professionals who need immediate access to authoritative and current medical data. AccessMedicine is updated daily with the full text, graphics, images and illustrations of the most recent editions of medical reference books. The following title is available electronically through AccessMedicine: The Cochrane Library consists of a regularly updated collection of evidence-based medicine databases, including The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Cochrane Methodology Register, NHS Economic Evaluation Database, Health Technology Assessment Database, and Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews. DynaMed DynaMed is updated daily and monitors the content of over 500 medical journals and systematic evidence review databases directly and indirectly by using many journal review services. Each publication is reviewed cover-to-cover, and each article is evaluated for clinical relevance and scientific validity. The new evidence is then integrated with existing content, and overall conclusions are changed as appropriate representing a synthesis of the best available evidence. Through this process of systematic literature surveillance, the best available evidence determines the content of DynaMed. EBSCOhost EBSCOhost includes indexed and abstracted titles and thousands of full-text titles, including peer-reviewed journals. This collection includes embedded images and provides journal coverage for most academic areas of study including; biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and women's studies. images.MD images.MD compiles over 70,000 images from 100 collections, covering all aspects of internal medicine, from allergy to cardiology to neurology to urology, each accompanied by detailed and informative text contributed by more than 2000 medical experts. MD Consult MD Consult Core Service helps answer clinical questions and stay abreast of recent developments by integrating medical reference books, medical journals and clinics, MEDLINE comprehensive drug information, peer-reviewed clinical practice guidelines, customizable patient education handouts, and daily personalized clinical updates. The following titles are available electronically through MD Consult: PubMed PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's search service that provides free access to millions of citations in Medline, PreMedline, and other related databases. When searching for articles on Dentistry, use these Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms to narrow your results: ScienceDirect ScienceDirect is a single source for scientific, technical, and medical information on the Internet. Researchers can access journal titles and full-text articles and search the abstract and indexing databases. UpToDate UpToDate is a comprehensive evidence-based clinical information resource available on the internet. UpToDate is designed to get the concise, practical answers needed at the point of care. Audio-DigestAudio-Digest programs are continuing education audio lectures by experts in their field. The library subscribes to 8 Audio-Digest specialties, including Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, and Psychiatry. Audio-Digest MP3 FormatThe library has the current year of its Audio Digest collection available in MP3 format. Audio-Digest CDs and Cassettes The library retains CDs and cassettes from the previous five years. Compact discs holding are from 2004 - 2007; cassettes from 2002 and 2003. These formats are available for checkout at the library. Web SitesOnline Resources: BMC SurgeryBMC Surgery is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in surgical research, training, and practice. Directory of Open Access Journals in Surgery The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content. They define open access journals as journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. From the BOAI definition [1] of "open access" they take the right of users to "read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles" as mandatory for a journal to be included in the directory. eMedicine.com - Suturing Techniques Nearly 10,000 physician authors and editors contribute to the eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base, which contains articles on 7,000 diseases and disorders. The evidence-based content, updated regularly, provides the latest practice guidelines in 59 medical specialties. eMedicine's professional content undergoes 4 levels of physician peer review plus an additional review by a PharmD prior to publication. MedlinePlus Surgical Videos This page provides links to prerecorded webcasts of surgical procedures. These are actual operations performed at medical centers in the United States since January 2004. The videos last an hour. Please note that you cannot send in questions by email, though the webcast may say that you can, because you are not seeing these videos live. Most videos dated after July 15, 2007 are in Flash format. You will need Flash to view the programs. You can download the flash players at www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer.
