Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals
Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA) is a database of genes, inherited disorders and traits in animal species (other than human and mouse) authored by Professor Frank Nicholas of the University of Sydney, Australia, with help from many people over the years. The database contains textual information and references, as well as links to relevant records from OMIM, PubMed, Gene, and soon to NCBI's Phenotype database.

PrimateLit
PrimateLit includes over 200,000 citations (1940 to date) relating to biomedical research, behavior, ecology, conservation, and veterinary care of nonhuman primates.

PubMed
PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's search service that provides free access to over 11 million citations in Medline, PreMedline, and other related databases.

ScienceDirect
ScienceDirect is a single source for scientific, technical, and medical information on the Internet. Researchers can access journal titles and full-text articles and search the abstract and indexing databases.

Web of Science
The Harriet K. and Philip Pumerantz Library's subscription to Web of Science includes Science Citation Index Expanded and Journal Citation Reports. Science Citation Index Expanded provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in approximately 5,900 scholarly science and technical journals. Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is a resource that allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data, this commonly known as the impact factor of a journal.

The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) is mandated by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) to provide information for improved animal care and use in research, testing, teaching, and exhibition.

Cornell Consultant
Consultant is "a diagnostic support system used to suggest possible diagnoses or causes for clinical signs and symptoms and to provide a brief synopsis of the diagnosis/cause including: 1) a general description, 2) species affected, 3) the signs/symptoms associated with it, and 4) a list of recent literature references." It is supported by Cornell University and is written by Dr. Maurice E. White, DVM.

Cornell University Virtual Vet
This module provides a step-by-step video demonstrating the bovine field necropsy, diagnostic sample collection, packaging, and shipping procedures. The visual reference contains images and text descriptions of normal tissues and gross pathologic lesions. Versatile search parameters support both diagnostic and educational uses.

Directory of Open Access Journals in Veterinary Medicine
The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content. They define open access journals as journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. From the BOAI definition [1] of "open access" they take the right of users to "read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles" as mandatory for a journal to be included in the directory.

Encyclopedia of Farm Animal Behavior
The Encyclopedia of Farm Animal Behavior is being undertaken by the United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service, Southern Plains Area, Livestock Issues Research Unit, Multimedia Division. This encyclopedia is intended for research and teaching within the field of applied animal ethology, the study of farm animal behavior.

European Veterinary Dissertations (EVD) Project
The EVD project is carried out by Euroscience in co-operation with the Library of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. It aims to make available the bibliographical information of the European Veterinary Dissertations. At this moment the EVD database contains the bibliographic data of 16.607 dissertations defended at 32 European Veterinary Faculties from 1984 onward.

The Irwin Foundation
The Irwin Foundation believes that the veterinary students of today will become the doctors, technicians, and research scientists of tomorrow, and their work will lead to advancements that ultimately extend beyond animals to benefit humanity. NetVet
NetVet links to many sites on the subjects of animals and veterinary medicine. Some of the sections in NetVet are the Career, Education, Specialties, Images, Government, and Organizations. A link to the Electronic Zoo is also included, which provides information on all types of animals, both domestic and exotic. NetVet and the Electronic Zoo are created and maintained by Ken Boschert, DVM of Washington University.

The Pet Center: Internet Animal Hospital
The PetCenter.com is an award winning virtual animal hospital. It is organized like a "real" pet clinic, including a waiting room and an operating table. This site offers easily understood explanations of pet diseases and disorders that make it one of the most visited animal websites today. Created by veterinarians, all articles are presented in non-medical terms, just as if the veterinarian was speaking to you personally in a real life situation. There are many photos, too, most of which were taken during actual animal hospital procedures.

United States Animal Health Association
The United States Animal Health Association (USAHA) is a science-based, non-profit, voluntary organization. Its members are state and federal animal health officials, national allied organizations, regional representatives, and individual members. USAHA works with state and local governments, universities, veterinarians, livestock producers, national livestock and poultry organizations, research scientists, the extension service and seven foreign countries to control livestock diseases in the United States. USAHA represents all 50 states, 7 foreign countries and 18 allied groups serving health, technical and consumer markets.

United States Department of Agriculture Veterinary Services
APHIS works in a variety of ways to protect and improve the health, quality, and marketability of our nation's animals, animal products, and veterinary biologics. This subject area describes many of the diseases facing animals today, as well the steps APHIS is taking to prevent, control, and eliminate those conditions.

United States Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine
The CVM regulates the manufacture and distribution of food additives and drugs that will be given to animals. These include animals from which human foods are derived, as well as food additives and drugs for companion animals. CVM is responsible for regulating drugs, devices, and food additives given to, or used on companion animals, as well as poultry, cattle, swine, and minor animal species.

Drugs.com is a consumer-oriented, comprehensive and up-to-date source of drug information online. Provides free, accurate and independent advice on more than 24,000 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and natural products. Includes features such as pill identifier, interactions checker, drug side effects, new drug approvals, and Veterinary Database.

Virtual Livestock Library
This site provides links to information on many types of livestock. Each section contains information about breeds, breed associations, collections of publications, commercial pages, cooperative extension programs, diseases, disorders and pests, genetics and selection, nutrition and feeding, production/husbandry, online magazines, reproduction, and software. Other resources include academic information, animal welfare, and cross species information.

World Organization for Animal Health
The need to fight animal diseases at global level led to the creation of the Office International des Epizooties through the international Agreement signed on January 25th 1924. In May 2003 the Office became the World Organization for Animal Health but kept its historical acronym OIE. The OIE is the intergovernmental organization responsible for improving animal health worldwide. It is recognized as a reference organization by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and as of May 2007, had a total of 169 Member Countries and Territories.

Professional Associations and Organizations:

American Animal Hospital Association
AAHA is the only exclusive companion animal veterinary association. The Association develops benchmarks of excellence, business practice standards, informative publications and educational programs designed to help companion animal practices thrive. AAHA believes in "healthy practices, healthier pets" and is dedicated to raising the bar in veterinary care. Throughout the Association's 75 years, its mission has remained the same: provide veterinary professionals with the resources they need to effectively manage their businesses and deliver the best in companion animal care.

American Association of Veterinary State Boards
AAVSB is the single entity that reports national licensing examination scores to the jurisdiction(s) where a veterinarian or veterinary technician desires to be licensed.

American Association of Zoo Veterinarians
AAZV is an international organization that applies the principles of comparative veterinary medicine to zoo and wildlife species. They work in clinical zoo medical practice, diagnostic laboratories, reproductive and pathological laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and a wide range of governmental health and wildlife management agencies. Their mission is to improve the health care and promote the conservation of captive and free-ranging wildlife.

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners
The ABVP has promoted and recognized the highest standards in the art and science of contemporary veterinary clinical practice. Their respected and fully-accredited certification process is designed for veterinarians who demonstrate expertise in a broad range of clinical subjects and display the ability to communicate medical observations and data in an organized, professional manner.

American Board of Veterinary Toxicology
The American Board of Veterinary Toxicology is a group of specially trained veterinarians that strive to inform and educate the public, private practice veterinarians and veterinary medical students about toxicological hazards to pets, livestock and wildlife.

American Veterinary Medical Association
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, is a not-for-profit association representing more than 75,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. The AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession.

American Veterinary Medical Association - Student AVMA
The Student AVMA s key objectives were patterned after those of the parent AVMA: ". . . to advance the science and art of veterinary medicine, including its relationship to agriculture and public health." Today the AVMA includes 29 student chapters with a total membership of over 10,000 students.

American Zoo and Aquarium Association
AZA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of accredited zoos and aquariums in the areas of animal care, wildlife conservation, education and science. AZA is America's leading accrediting organization for zoos and aquariums and accredits only those institutions that have achieved rigorous standards for animal care, education, wildlife conservation and science.

Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges
The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) represents its member institutions in its collective dealings with governmental bodies, veterinary medical organizations, the animal and human health industry, educational and scientific organizations and the public. The association also promotes the priority areas of academic veterinary medicine, which include: increasing human resources, infrastructure support and research funding; providing adequate financial support for students and the overall diversification of the veterinary medical profession.

California Veterinary Medical Association
The CVMA is the largest state veterinary medical association in the nation. The CVMA is committed to serving their membership and community through innovative leadership and to improving animal and human health in an ethically and socially responsible manner. They strive to be the respected source of pertinent information for members and the public, vocal advocates for animals and the profession, and to promote the veterinary profession and to develop leaders for the future.

International Veterinary Students Association
IVSA's goals are to raise the overall standard of veterinary education by increasing international and inter-cultural exchange of ideas and knowledge and to promote opportunities for veterinary students to undertake education in important areas outside their normal training.

Southern California Veterinary Medical Association
The Southern California Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA) is a professional association made up of veterinarians dedicated to the advancement of animal health. SCVMA's programs include continuing education seminars and symposia of the highest quality for members. The SCVMA also works with local governmental agencies in the control of rabies through voluntary staffing of public dog anti-rabies vaccination clinics.
