Dorothy received her Associate of Science in Nursing from Tompkins Cortland Community College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Syracuse University, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles with dual specialization in Nursing Administration and Occupational and Environmental Health. She maintains Wound Care Certification, is active in the Association for California Nurse Leaders (ACNL), and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society for Nursing.

Professional areas of interest include support of nursing initiatives, patient advocacy, quality of care, occupational safety, and systems development to support safety in the workplace and public arena.
