Karen Hanford, MSN, FNP, EdD(c) is Founding Dean of the College of Graduate Nursing.

Karen Hanford has over 30 years of nursing experience, which spans the continuum from critical care nursing to ambulatory care as a family nurse practitioner. As founding dean of CGN she has been instrumental in curriculum design and achieving Board of Registered Nursing approval and professional accreditation for all graduate programs. The College celebrated its ten year anniversary in 2007 and its ten year re-accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) the national accrediting body for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Professor Hanford has presented at numerous national meetings in the area of curriculum design and distance teaching. The College is recognized as a leader in distance education. Dean Hanford has over 20 years of nursing education experience and is an expert in pulmonary nursing. Ms. Hanford has been an advanced practice nurse for fifteen years with a special interest in internal medicine.

Karen received her BSN from San Francisco State University and her MSN from California State University, Chico. For her FNP education, Karen attended the University of North Dakota. Currently she is completing her doctoral education in educational leadership.

Karen's professional areas of interest include women's health, asthma, leadership, distance education, and professional role development.
