Dean's Advisory Council for the College of Pharmacy
Mission
The mission of the College of Pharmacy Dean's Advisory Council is to assist the College in building a strong presence in the world of pharmacy, to increase the College's national and international visibility for quality research, education and service, and to serve as ambassadors for the College.
The Council will realize its mission by:
Advisory Council Structure
The Council is composed of 16 to 20 members, representing a broad cross-section of the pharmacy, business and educational communities.
The full Advisory Council will meet two times per year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Subcommittees will convene individually throughout the year, as needed, to address action items resulting from the semi-annual meetings.
Council Member Selection
The Dean will consider nominations for new Council members from current members and from the College of Pharmacy faculty.
Criteria for Council membership include:

A willingness and ability to work actively on the College of Pharmacy's behalf

A broad awareness of the pharmacy community and the issues it faces

A commitment to active participation and attendance at all meetings

A clear understanding of the Council's mission and a commitment to assisting the College in raising financial support.
Council members will serve on rotating two-year terms with an option for renewal at the discretion of the Dean.

Glenn Etow, PharmD
Chief Operating Officer of Comprehensive Pharmacy Services
Dr. Etow is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Comprehensive Pharmacy Services, the country's largest hospital pharmacy management company. His 32 years of experience includes managing small, medium and large hospital pharmacies plus overseeing a home infusion operation. In 1981 he started the ASHP accredited Pharmacy practice residency and served as the Program Director of that residency program for ten years. Dr. Etow received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy. He continues to be active in pharmacy associations and is dedicated to the advancement of pharmacy practice.

Richard de Leon obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He is currently the Director of Pharmacy Affairs at Amgen.

Steven W. Gray, PharmD, JD
Pharmacy Professional Affairs Leader, Kaiser Permanente, Downey, CA
Steven Gray obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California and a J.D degree from Northrop University School of Law. In 2004, Dr. Gray served as president of the California Pharmacists Association. He currently is the Pharmacy Professional Affairs Leader for Kaiser Permanente. He is a member of several professional associations including AMCP, APhA, ASHP, CPhA, CSHP, and the CA State Bar.

Senior Vice President of Professional Practice and Pharmacy Policy, Prescription Solutions, Irvine, CA
John D. Jones obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Idaho State University and a J.D degree from the University of San Francisco with an emphasis on medical and business law. In the past, John has worked as the Director of Home Therapy Services at the University of California, San Francisco and as Director of Pharmacy Relations at Blue Shield of California in San Francisco. For the last 14 years, John has served as the Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs for Prescription Solutions in Irvine, California. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Professional Practice and Pharmacy Policy. In 2000, John served as President of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and in 2002 he was President of the California Board of Pharmacy.

Roger Klotz, RPh, BCNSP, FASCP, FACA, FCPhA
Regional Coordinator, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice & Administration, College of Pharmacy. Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA
Roger Klotz obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois and is a Board Certified Nutrition Specialist Pharmacist. Currently, Professor Klotz is the Regional Coordinator and an Associate professor of Pharmacy Practice & Administration at Western University of Health Sciences. He has been elected three times to serve as a board member for the CPhA- Academy of Specialty Practice; he was elected to the Board of the Academy of Pharmacy Educators last year; and most recently has been elected to the Chair of the Ambulatory Care, Home Care, and Chronic Care section of the ASHP. He was the first recipient of the California Pharmacy Foundation Michelotti Public Health Prize in 2005. Victor Law, PharmD
Owner, Pharmacist, Alpha Medical Pharmacy, Alhambra, CA
Born in Hong Kong, Victor Law came to the United States in 1971 and studied Pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. He was a member of the Phi Eta Sigma (Freshman Honorary) as well as the Pho Chi Fraternity. Before opening his own Pharmacy in 1987, Victor served as the Manager for both the Rite-Aid and Sav-on pharmacy chains over a period of years. Professionally, Victor served as the President of the California Pharmacist Association in the San Gabriel Valley. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for UPNI, a network of 1200 community pharmacies in Southern California. In 2006, Victor was appointed by the speaker of the state assembly to the California State Board of Behavioral Science and currently serves as the chairman of the board. Victor is also serving as the Chairman of the board for Garfield Medical Center.

Elaine Levy, Rph
System Director of Pharmacy and Clinical Nutrition Services, Sharp Healthcare, San Diego
Elaine Levy obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Toledo in Ohio. In the past, Elaine has worked as the Supervisor of Pharmacy at Mercy Hospital in San Diego and Director of Pharmacy at the Community Hospital of Chula Vista. In 1994, Elaine became the first System Director of Pharmacy at Sharp Healthcare, a position she still currently holds. Elaine has been involved in many implementations of pharmacy automation and was one of the first to implement the use of automated dispensing systems (Pyxis) in 1988. In 2003, she began the first community-based accredited pharmacy residency program in San Diego. .

Jesse Martinez, PharmD
Vice Dean, Academic Diversity and Development, College of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA
Jesse Martinez obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California. He has thirty years of experience in several areas of pharmacy administration including pharmacy ownership, management of home health nursing agencies, clinical laboratories and government reimbursement programs. He has developed pharmacy operations on a national scale to include Infusion Services, Nutritional Support, Ancillary Services, Pharmacy Consulting Services, Marketing and Sales. He has been CEO and Divisional President for Summit Care and has held senior executive positions with several national health care organizations. Dr. Martinez is currently the Vice Dean of Academic Diversity & Development at Western University of Health Sciences and is one of the charter members of the Board of Advisors for the College of Pharmacy. Michael J. Negrete, PharmD
Chief Executive, Pharmacy Foundation of California, Sacramento, CA
Michael Negrete, PharmD is the Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy Foundation of California (PFC), a 501(c)(3) public-benefit corporation. PFC was incorporated in 1977 as the California Pharmacists Association Educational Foundation for the purpose of improving and promoting the public health through the performance of education, research and information dissemination related to the field of pharmacy. Dr. Negrete is a recognized author, speaker and expert in the field of safe and effective medication use. He regularly writes articles for the California Pharmacist and has been published in various national pharmacy and health marketing journals. Dr. Negrete has been quoted in numerous newspapers including USA Today, the New York Times and the LA Times; and has appeared on many television news casts and television shows including CBS's The Doctors.

Megan Nguyen, PharmD

Megan Nguyen obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Western University of Health Sciences. She completed an Infectious Disease residency at Huntington Memorial Hospital and a residency in Pharmacy Practice at the VA in Palo Alto. Dr. Nguyen is currently an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice & Administration at Western University of Health Sciences and an Infectious Disease Pharmacist at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. James Prazak obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is currently the Vice President as well as a Trustee for Bristol Myers Squibb. As Vice President, he manages the BMS Patient Assistance Foundation and its patient assistance programs. During his three decades in the pharmaceutical industry, he has held various positions including: sales, sales management, medical information, and accredited continuing pharmacy education.

Daniel C. Robinson, PharmD

Daniel Robinson obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He is currently the Dean of Western University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy as well as a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. Dr. Robinson has over 30 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist & health care educator and over 20 years of experience in academic and health care administration. He has established nine international academic exchange agreements in seven countries and has co-founded the California Center for Pharmaceutical Care. He has served on the International Pharmacy Education Advisory Committee for American Association for Colleges of Pharmacy, the Academic Leadership Fellows Program as Dean Facilitator, the Board of Directors for the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service, the Board of Directors for the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, and he is past national president of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. Thomas Russillo, BS

Thomas Russillo obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Fordham University in New York City. He is currently the Executive Vice President at Watson Pharmaceuticals and serves as President of Watson's US Generic Division. Before starting at Watson, Thomas was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Ben Venue Laboratories in Bedford, Ohio for 14 years. He has also served as Chairman of the National Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and a board member for the Generic Pharmaceutical Association.

Tom Saito, PharmD
Director of Pharmacy Services, Director of Respiratory Therapy, Director of Neurodiagnostics, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Fountain Valley, CA
Tom Saito obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UCSF. He is currently the Director of Pharmacy at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. He has worked at acute care facilities his entire career. Dr. Saito's areas of clinical practice have been at the City of Hope National Medical Center and at the Hospital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles. At those locations he worked mainly in surgical oncology, participated in the start up of the City of Hope's bone marrow transplant program and worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Good Samaritan for many years. He has been a Director of Pharmacy beginning in 1990 at Mission Hospital and Regional Medical Center, and most recently at his current location, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. His current work centers on patient medication safety initiatives and development of clinical pharmacy practitioners.

Brian Schweigert obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of California, San Francisco. He is currently working as the Chief Education and Government Affairs Officer for Memorial Health Services. Prior to his current position, Dr. Schweigert was the Chief Executive Officer of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller's Children's Hospital for 7 years. He has also been very active in the community as a member of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and in 2006-2007 he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Denny currently owns and manages an athletic performance and character development program for young athletes in Newport Beach.

Brad Trom obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from North Dakota State University and a Masters in Business Administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Illinois. He is currently the CEO for Lovelace Retail Pharmacy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Previously, he served as Vice President of Pharmacy Operations for Albertsons/Sav-on Pharmacy, Sav-on drugs and Osco Drug in ten western states. Prior to that, he was Vice President, General Manager for CVS Pharmacy in Southern California. Dr. Joel Weber is Vice president, Health System-Professional Services for AmerisourceBergen Corporation. Dr. Weber is responsible for executive messaging, solution assessments and positioning of professional services and supply chain consulting engagements. Prior to this position, Dr. Weber was Vice President of Health Systems Sales with AmerisourceBergen. He joined Bergen Brunswig Drug Company as Director of Health Systems Solutions in October 1998. As the Solutions Director he was involved in development of prototype processes that were streamlined while maintaining cost effectiveness and safe intuitive solutions to the distribution, clinical, and administrative problems related to pharmacy practice. In December 1999, his role changed when he was promoted to Vice President for the West Region. In October 2001, Amerisource and Bergen Brunswig merged to form AmerisourceBergen an S & P 500 Company and the largest drug wholesaler in the world. Following the merger, Joel's responsibility continued with Health Systems for the Southwest Region, In 2003 this was expanded to the West Region (13-state area and the Pacific Rim). Dr. Weber's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Pacific, School of Pharmacy. He also completed an ASHP-approved Hospital Residency program at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco. He also has complete the VHA Pharmacy Business training and the Advanced Business training programs held at Auburn University. .

Dr. Shimomura currently serves as the Associate Dean for College Advancement at Western University of Health Sciences- College of Pharmacy and has been a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at WesternU for over a decade. Paul Stover obtained his Masters in Education degree from California State University of Fullerton and holds a Preliminary Administration Credential. After teaching for over twenty years at the secondary and college levels, he began his professional development career. He has held recent development positions at Claremont Graduate University and served as the Interim Executive Director of the CHOC Foundation. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Technology Working Group for the City of Fullerton, and the Director of Development for Western University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy.
