Lester J. Jones, DPM, MS, is the Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Western University of Health Sciences College of Podiatric Medicine. In September 2007, Dr Jones retired from his the position as the Associate Chief of Staff for Quality Assurance and Department Chair/Chief of Podiatric Surgery at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. During his tenure at the VA Greater Los Angeles, Dr. Jones was also a Comp 2 Clinical Professor in the Division of General Surgery/Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and responsible for the development of a fully integrated podiatric medicine and surgery residency training program at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care and Olive View/UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Jones has also served the podiatric medical profession at several other colleges of podiatric medicine. He has held the position of Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) and Associate Professor of Biomechanics/Orthopaedics from 1987-1989. Prior to being recruited to the Clinical Dean's position at OCPM, Dr Jones was an Associate Professor of Biomechanics at the California College of Podiatric Medicine from 1977-1987, a position that he was recruited to fill following his completion of a podiatric medicine and surgery residency training program and fellowship/masters of podiatric medical education from 1975-1977. In addition to his commitment to the education and training of residents and students, Dr. Jones also found the time to run and manage his own part-time private practice in the city of San Francisco for 1977-1987, and from 1989-1997, prior to his relocation to Los Angeles, California.

His most significant contribution has been his leadership in developing the VA Greater Los Angeles-Olive View/UCLA Medical Center integrated podiatric medical and surgical residency training program which is one of the premier programs in the nation. Dr. Jones continues to maintain oversight of this program. Over the course of his 30-year career, he has trained roughly 1000 students, residents and fellows, achieving the status of one of the profession's leading educators. Through his efforts to promote quality educational programs for students, residents and practitioners in the state of California, Dr. Jones received the Heather Barton Ward Service Award from the Alumni and Associates of the California College of Podiatric Medicine for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the College, the Distinguished Service Award and the Education Award from the California Podiatric Medical Association in recognition for Exemplary work with the California Liaison Council, the Outstanding Clinician Award in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery for the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care for excellence in podiatric medical training and education.

Dr. Jones has served his profession on a local, state and national level. Locally, he was Chair of the California Liaison Committee which was designed to generate access to educational enrichment for podiatric medical and surgical residents in academic health science centers throughout the State of California. The VA Greater Los Angeles / Olive View-UCLA residency program is an example of this effort that has sustained the past decade.

Dr. Jones has served the profession as a member of the California Podiatric Medical Association and a Board Member and Chair for the well recognized Western Podiatric Medical Congress for continuing podiatric medical education.

On a national basis, Dr. Jones has served his profession through his numerous efforts and commitments to the education of future podiatric physicians and surgeons. He has generously given his time as a Member and former Vice Chairman of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, and has served as Chairman of the Committee of the CPME such as the Joint Residency Review Committee, Continuing Education Committee and the Accreditation Committee. Additionally, Dr. Jones has also held other national positions such as President of the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, President of the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedist, Vice President of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine, and is a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice, and currently serving on the Committees on Public Policy and Inter-Disciplinary Education.
