Personal Teaching Philosophy
|
|
One of my primary responsibilities in this position is to assign students to the most optimal teaching and learning facilities during their third and fourth year clinical rotations. The College has selected practices with three or more doctors, that meet the high standards of the American Animal Hospital Association. Southern California, especially, lends itself to the application of this teaching model due to the large number of high volume and high quality practices located close to our campus in Pomona. The students' attainment of medical and surgical knowledge available within these practices, coupled with an understanding of the way cases are handled by seasoned practitioners, will serve them well as they begin their entrance into the world of veterinary practice. The admonition that "the brighter you are, the more you have to learn," will hold in this teaching modality. There is much to be learned from these practices and these practitioners, our trusted practice partners. Our students will bring wide and diverse backgrounds into this program. Our goal has always been to produce the best and most qualified graduate possible. The prize will be that veterinarian who will take both knowledge and wisdom into the profession and into society as a result of his or her endeavors here at Western University of Health Sciences. My other responsibities are to serve as a liaison between the College and outside entities who partner with us toward the goal of educating future generations of veterinarians.
