  • Narrative

I am the son of immigrant parents, the youngest of 5, the first to graduate college, and the first to go to Medical school. Growing up I would often find myself hanging out after school at my local hospital's cafeteria, waiting for my parents to get off work. In retrospect, those times waiting at the hospital are when I started to feel comfortable around a hospital setting. I decided to become a physician while in college and after 2 failed attempts I was beginning to think it was not going to happen for me. Thankfully, I had an advisor tell me that what I was presenting on paper was not the same thing I would be talking about during one on one conversations with him. I did not realize that on casual conversations I kept talking about how I wanted to return to that hospital I waited at as a kid and make it better. Growing up I learned that many people in my community did not have as many fond memories of the hospital as I did. So, when my words matched my heart everything fell in place, I was admitted into medical school, and I haven't stop working until I get back to my hometown hospital to give my community fond memories of it too.
