\n\t\t\t\t\tSeptember is <\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWomen in Medicine and Science Month<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t
In honor of Women in Medicine and Science Month, we are pleased to highlight CETL\u2019s own Dalia Seleem, DDS, PhD, who recently joined the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning as Western University of Health Sciences\u2019 Director of Interprofessional Education. In this university-wide role, Dr. Seleem leads and coordinates IPE initiatives across WesternU\u2019s Pomona and Oregon campuses, working collaboratively with colleges, faculty, staff, and students to advance meaningful interprofessional learning and collaborative practice. <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Dr. Seleem has been a member of the WesternU community since 2017 and currently holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Dental Medicine (CDM). Her leadership experience includes serving as Clinical Team Leader, Assistant Dean for Biomedical Sciences Curriculum, and most recently assuming interim Associate Dean-level responsibilities in Research & Biomedical Sciences at CDM. Throughout these roles, she has contributed to curriculum development and integration, assessment, research and scholarship, faculty and student mentorship, and academic program initiatives.<\/p>\n

An experienced health professions educator, Dr. Seleem has taught extensively across biomedical and clinical sciences, including human systems, oral biology, clinical pharmacology, evidence-based research, and integrated clinical content. Her commitment to collaborative health professions education has also included serving as a WesternU IPE facilitator, mentoring students through the Health Career Ladder and Summer Health Professions Education Program, and developing and presenting continuing education programs that bring together multiple health professions around complex patient care.<\/p>\n

Dr. Seleem has also contributed to continuing professional education through invited presentations for the California Dental Association\u2019s Guardians of the Oral Cavity program and Stanford continuing education, addressing oral-systemic health, diabetes, and the management of medically complex patients. Her interprofessional CE work has brought together colleagues from dentistry, pharmacy, podiatry, and optometry to advance collaborative approaches to patient care.<\/p>\n

Her scholarship spans health professions education, professionalism, oral-systemic health, and biomedical research. In 2025, she served as Guest Editor for the\u00a0Journal of the California Dental Association<\/i>\u00a0special collection,\u00a0Advances in Dentistry in the Last Decade<\/i>, and she has held editorial roles with\u00a0Frontiers in Oral Health<\/i>. Her recent scholarship in the\u00a0Journal of Dental Education<\/i>\u00a0has examined professionalism across predoctoral dental curricula and approaches to its assessment. She has also collaborated through ADEA Women in Leadership on continuing education focused on wellness, resilience, and leadership development in academic dentistry.<\/p>\n

Dr. Seleem has presented her educational and scientific work at national and international professional meetings, including those of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR), and American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR), reflecting her longstanding engagement in health professions education and research.<\/p>\n

Dr. Seleem has pursued extensive academic leadership development through programs including the ADEA Emerging Leaders Program, the Academy for Advancing Leadership\u2019s Chairs and Academic Administrators Management Program, and ADEA Women in Leadership programming. Her contributions to education have been recognized with WesternU\u2019s\u00a0Distinguished Faculty Award in 2022<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Faculty Award for Excellence in Biomedical Sciences Teaching in 2024 and 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Seleem earned her DDS and PhD in Craniofacial and Molecular Biology from the University of Southern California and brings to her new role a background spanning clinical practice, biomedical sciences, research, academic leadership, and health professions education.<\/p>\n
