COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In the interest of maintaining the health and safety of our students, employees, guests, and all members of campus communities, WesternU requires all faculty, staff, residents, trainees, and students to be fully vaccinated and up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, as defined by the CDC against COVID-19, subject to limited exemptions, regardless of whether they are on-site, or attending class.

Submit proof of your COVID-19 vaccinations and booster card to stu-emphealth@westernu.edu.  In the email subject line, write COVID Booster.

Please refer to the CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters for information related to eligibility for booster doses.

Simply take a photo of your vaccine card and email it to stu-emphealth@westernu.edu. In the subject line, write COVID Vaccine. Students, please include your College and class year. Employees, please include your department. Once you receive the COVID-19 booster vaccination, submit another photo of your card and write COVID Booster in the subject line.

  • Does the policy apply to employees who work 100% remotely?

    Yes, the policy applies to all faculty, staff, trainees, residents, and students of WesternU. This is regardless of where they are located and whether they access campus or any other WesternU affiliated facilities.  
  • Does the policy apply to students in 100% remote programs?

    Yes, the policy applies to all faculty, staff, trainees, residents, and students of WesternU. This is regardless of where they are located and whether they access campus or any other WesternU affiliated facilities. 
  • Does the policy apply to booster doses?

    Yes, the policy includes booster requirements per the recommendations of the CDC.
  • I recently had COVID-19, am I able to still receive the vaccine or booster?

    Yes, you should be vaccinated and receive the booster regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 because:  

    • Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19. 
    • Vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19. 

    You only need to wait until your isolation period has ended after COVID-19 infection to receive the COVID-19 vaccine or booster.  

    From the CDC: 

    People with COVID-19 who have symptoms should wait to be vaccinated until they have recovered from their illness and have met the criteria for discontinuing isolation; those without symptoms should also wait until they meet the criteria before getting vaccinated. This guidance also applies to people who get COVID-19 before getting their second dose of vaccine. 

    If you were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID-19 vaccine. You will also need to submit a temporary Medical Exemption Form from your healthcare provider.
