General Information
Attending Orientation/Welcome Week Virtually
Orientation/Welcome Week will be delivered virtually via Zoom web video conferencing this year due to the precautions the University has in place to protect the campus community from contracting the novel coronavirus. Zoom does not require any software download to access. Just simply click on the Zoom link for each orientation session provided on the below CGN Orientation Welcome Week Schedule and follow the prompts.
Zoom Web Conferencing Information
WESTERNU ZOOM ACCOUNT
Many of you may already have a personal Zoom account and have downloaded the Zoom application on your computer, tablet, or phone. As a WesternU student it is important that you log into the WesternU Zoom account when engaging in WesternU-related Zoom sessions. You will need to access the WesternU Zoom account through single sign on (SSO). You will login via SSO using your WesternU email address and password you created to access all the WesternU platforms (email, BanWeb, etc.). Please access the Zoom SSO Instructions which will provide you with the step-by-step process on how to login to the WesternU Zoom account.
NOTE: If you already have a personal Zoom account, it is important that you make sure to log out of your personal Zoom account first and then login into the WesternU Zoom account BEFORE clicking on a WesternU-related Zoom link. If you do not do this step first and you click on a WesternU-related Zoom link, Zoom will automatically use your personal Zoom login information to access the Zoom session.
ZOOM GUIDE FOR WESTERNU STUDENTS
Please access the Zoom Guide for WesternU Students. This important guide will provide you with information such as how to join a meeting, testing audio/video, Zoom netiquette, and much more. Please read the entire guide thoroughly. This will help you navigate Zoom successfully not just for Orientation/Welcome Week, but also for the upcoming academic year as many didactic courses will be delivered via Zoom.
As mentioned above, it is important to read the entire guide; however, below are a few important points to remember concerning attending the Zoom sessions for Orientation/Welcome Week:
- Although you can join a Zoom session via phone, we ask all incoming students to join all Orientation/Welcome Week Zoom sessions on a desktop/laptop computer or tablet/iPad equipped with a camera and microphone. Please reference the guide on how to test your audio/video. Our faculty, staff, and administration will expect to see and hear you virtually during the Orientation/Welcome Week sessions.
- As mentioned above, Zoom does not require any software download to access, however, please reference the Zoom System Requirements web page to ensure your device has the appropriate systems requirements, internet connection, and supporting operating system to access Zoom.
- Keep the Orientation/Welcome Week Agenda with Zoom links accessible in the event you are logged off due to internet or computer issues and need to log back into a Zoom session.
- Log in early to each Zoom session and ensure your first and last name is displayed correctly in the participants list. If you logged into the WesternU Zoom account using SSO, then your first and last name should be displayed properly. If your name is displayed as a nickname or email address, please change it promptly for each Zoom session so staff can properly count you in attendance. On the first day of Orientation, staff will walk you through how to do this.
- All participants will be muted upon entry into a Zoom session. Please stay muted until requested to speak or during an open Q&A. This will keep all background noise distractions to a minimum.
- Be attentive and present yourself professionally, which includes appropriate attire (no pajamas or workout clothes) and a professional background since you will be using your camera.

Will it cost me more to use the extended Curriculum?
Adding a year will add the cost of a clinical fee for each semester that includes clinical hours. If you are in the FNP or MSN/FNP programs, there would also be an additional unit of Clinical Comps, as there has to be comprehensive testing at the end of each year. That would add an additional 1 unit of tuition to the overall cost.

When I register, will I know what courses I should be registering for?
You will not be registering for specific courses. You will only be registering for a “place holder”. The system automatically populates the courses that you should be in. For those students that are on an extended curriculum or have some other deviation to the normal curriculum, the Registrar then makes those adjustments manually (after the system auto registers). You should keep the curriculum grid that Mitzi McKay sent to you in the first Welcome Email, so that you can follow along each semester. If your curriculum should change midway through the program for any reason, an updated curriculum grid would be emailed to you.
If you still have further questions after perusing the new student web pages, please email Eva Badouin at ebadouin@westernu.edu.
