Curriculum<\/h2>\n<p>The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) recognized in 2004 that the nursing profession needed a practice doctorate. Such recognition aligns with the 2005 report from the National Academy of Science (NAS).\u00a0 NAS stated, \u201cThe need for doctorally prepared practitioners and faculty would be met if nursing could develop a new non-research clinical doctorate\u201d. The program includes campus-based and synchronous\/virtual intensives throughout the program of study. These courses use a highly self-directed approach in guiding students through the examination of course concepts which reflect the complexity of practice at the doctoral level. While the readings and websites provide the necessary background information, assignments and online discussions provide the opportunity for you to process the information, internalize key concepts and demonstrate learning.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nSeminar intensives on campus and virtually provide valuable time for you to interact one-on-one with faculty and others in the class. Intensives provide additional opportunities to discuss, analyze, and problem-solve while moving through the program. Practice-based immersion experiences are designed to support DNP students in their future role expectations.
